Braeckman's 12-Year-Old Whisky wins Liquid Gold award
We are incredibly proud to share that our Braeckman Belgian Single Grain Whisky - 12 Years Old - Single Barrel (Cask No. 97) has received the prestigious "Liquid Gold" award in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2022, scoring an exceptional 95.5 points!
Jim Murray has declared this single barrel whisky an absolute star, confirming our dedication to excellence. Let's delve into the tasting notes that so convinced Jim Murray:
Jim Murray's Tasting Notes
Nose: Though from a first-fill cask, this never attempts to be anything other than a light aroma with a fusion of varied tannin notes, the sugar never straying far from the firm, boiled sweet variety.
Taste: "Here we go... It is happening again... A Twin Peak of sugar and tannin one hitting after the other, vanishing and then reappearing. While the spices buzz, the texture never shifts from soft and enveloping..." The complexity of this whisky is truly remarkable, with layers that gradually unfold on the tongue.
Finish: "Of all the world's distilleries, Braeckman have few peers when it comes to the finish of their whiskies. This is as long as the sunset I have just witnessed here: slow but subtle changes in colouring, texture and intensity of glow. All predominantly around a chocolate and butterscotch theme... but that is oversimplifying it. A particular trait that develops early on, but you're not quite able to pinpoint or identify, now settles into rich vanilla. The sugars never quite lose that butterscotch hue. But it peaks when we reach Malteser Max... a heady mix of concentrated, melt-in-the-mouth malt and milky chocolate." A finish that lingers and evolves, a true delight.
Overall Balance and Complexity: "The equivalent bottling was last year's European single cask of the year, and deservedly so. This one is also superstar status. Not quite up to the overall near perfection of last year's offering, due mainly to a slightly shy or lazy nose. But it certainly confirms that last year's winner was no fluke: this is quite brilliant in its own right. What a treat..."
This "Liquid Gold" accolade and the extraordinary score of 95.5 from Jim Murray are a wonderful recognition for our family. We are incredibly proud of this whisky!
